If you’ve ever watched late night television, then you know about those 30 minute advertisement infomercials as they’re called. They are quite compelling and addictive too. These ad agencies found a way to produce massive results with these “ads” and are making a killing with them. Why are they so effective? Why do people become engrossed with them and gladly hand over their credit cards to the “number on the screen”? Do you ever feel like you’ve been duped by the “big boys” when the product you purchased didn’t measure up to what was promised? Just imagine if the product was really good and did exactly what it said it would do? There is much to be learned by this kind of advertising and it’s something that you should incorporate into your ad campaigns.
So, what is it about these infomercials that make them so successful and grabs your attention? Here are several things that I know personally have put me in a trance for myself:
1. Attention grabbing problem
People have problems and a lot of them. By getting to the consumer by identifying their problems, you get their attention right off the bat. Because where there is a problem, there must be a solution right around the corner and you’ll keep watching to see what it is.
2. Find real people who have received real results
These infomercials use “test subjects” at first to try the product and give their testimonial. Eventually, if the product is what it says it can do, customers will come out of the woodwork to sing their praises and jump at the chance to come on T.V. to talk about their experiences. You at home eat this stuff up because it’s real. You know real from fake. Most people can’t act and you know who they are.
3. They offer a solution to your problem
Essentially, this is the product or service they are advertising for. If it is indeed a great product or service, then it will be successful. It’s important to note that not every product or service out there is going to work for everyone and to think otherwise would be foolish. The big boys know this and don’t let it get to them.
4. They use famous personalities to endorse the products
Using celebrities is a sure-fire way to get people’s attention because we tend to hold these icons as authority figures because they’re famous. When you get someone that is really well-known to promote your product, it will probably go without saying that you will do very well for yourself.
5. They give you a great offer with an “iron clad” money back guarantee
This is probably the most important of all because even if you get everything else right, if you mess this up, you’ll miss the boat completely.
People these days are very weary of trying hyped up products that have outrageous claims for fear of losing their hard earned money. By offering a great introductory offer with an iron-clad guarantee, it will take the risk completely out of the equation. The one thing I will say is that if you do get returns or bad feedback, don’t ignore it or not return their money. In business, your integrity means everything so do what you say, say what you mean, and deliver on your promises. People will respect you for it.
